Saona Island vs Catalina Island

Same coast, different days

Saona and Catalina are both reached by boat from a La Romana cruise call. That is where the similarity ends for planning purposes. Saona is the longer beach-day island, usually discussed with Bayahibe as the boat context, inside the national-park landscape of the southeast. Catalina is the smaller island people choose for reef and snorkelling character. Neither page should be used as a substitute for the other. This page only compares them.

How to choose

If the sentence you keep repeating is “I want the beach”, read Saona. If the sentence is “I want to snorkel”, read Catalina and snorkelling. If you want both islands, you are stacking two boat days. That is a different plan from choosing one, and this site does not present it as a standard cruise-day outing.
