Saona Island is part of Parque Nacional del Este, off the southeast coast. From a ship in La Romana it is the long beach-day idea: a boat, a palm coast, and a large share of the call used up by the crossing and the time ashore. This page plans that idea from La Romana. Bayahibe, as context only

Boats toward Saona are usually discussed as leaving from the Bayahibe area, a coastal village east of the cruise terminal. Bayahibe is not the dock, and it is not a second cruise port in this guide. Knowing the name helps you understand why a Saona day is a farther day: you are not stepping from the gangway onto a boat at the terminal. What the island is for

Choose Saona when the beach day is the point. The coast is the picture people mean: pale sand, palms, shallow-looking water. It is a national-park island, so it is not a resort strip and it is not Catalina’s reef-first character. Swimming can be part of the day.
